The Brain Activation and Satiety in Children 2 Study

Looking for help to better manage your and your child’s weight?

Researchers at Seattle Children’s Research Institute want to find ways to help overweight kids and their parents reach and maintain a healthy weight.

Your family may be a good fit for this study if your child will be  10-12 years old in the next 6 months & is heavy for his/her age and gender.

Research is always voluntary!

If you decide to take part in this study, you and your child would:

  • Attend free family-based weight management classes in English, which are about 90 minutes long & meet once a week in the evening for 6 months at one of our clinic sites or remotely

  • Get measurements of your weight & height, diet, & activity before, during & after treatment

Your child would:

•Be randomized to receive either a study medicine that would help them with weight control OR a placebo medicine

Your child would have 6 additional visits:

•Three 4 hour visits at the University of Washington, where your child will have two MRI scans, blood testing, body measurements, & surveys to complete

•Three 60 minute visits for body measurements at 2, 6, & 12 months after treatment ends

Children who take part in this study would receive up to $570 in gift cards & checks.
